North Queensland’s premiership party isn’t expected to end anytime soon with the Cowboys planning to take their NRL trophy on a tour of the far north.

The Cowboys confirmed on Wednesday planning was underway for a tour of Cairns, Mackay and Mount Isa.

A number of players from North Queensland’s inaugural premiership-winning side will accompany the Provan-Summons trophy on the tour in the coming weeks.

The tour will also travel over the off-season to smaller towns in the vast region covered by the Cowboys’ massive supporter base.

More than 15,000 fans celebrated North Queensland’s epic 17-16 grand final win over Brisbane at a civic reception at Townsville’s 1300 Smile Stadium on Monday.

That crowd was more than double the number of fans that were at Redfern Oval last year to enjoy South Sydney’s record-breaking premiership triumph.

“To clarify, this tour will likely involve a group of players and the trophy, and would encompass Cairns, Mackay and (probably) Mount Isa, those being the chief cities (that aren’t Townsville) in our footprint,” a statement from the Cowboys on Wednesday said.
