The 2015 Melbourne Cup has been run and won again, this time by Prince of Penzance, one of the few bonafide roughies before the race.

Here’s what the jockeys had to say after the race.

PRINCE OF PENZANCE – Michelle Payne
“From the 1000(m),everything just opened up. I got onto the back of Trip To Paris and he took me into the race. I was actually clipping his heels, I was going that good, but I didn’t want to check but when he got into the straight, he just burst clear.”

MAX DYNAMITE – Frankie Dettori
“Bit unfortunate I couldn’t get the split. I had to go around but that’s racing.”

CRITERION – Michael Walker
“Should have been a different result. I was stiff. Had the best run where I wanted to be. Clocked-off good. Was confident with half-a-mile to go. All I needed was an out and I thought I was going to win. I had to wait until the furlong to get that out. He flashed home. Would have been interesting if I had got out at the top of the straight.”

TRIP TO PARIS – Tommy Berry
“He went super. The slow tempo mid-race didn’t suit him. He would have liked a more genuine tempo in the race. I thought I was the winner at the top of the straight but he didn’t show the same turn of foot he showed in the Caulfield Cup. The winner had me cold.”

BIG ORANGE – Jamie Spencer
“The draw made it difficult and I felt the track was a little bit dead for my horse.”

GUST OF WIND – Chad Schofield
“Very good run. I rode her quietly. She travelled well and hit the line very strongly.”

EXCESS KNOWLEDGE – Kerrin McEvoy
“Went great. Got across into a nice spot. I was happy with the way he moved throughout. Picked-up and gave me a kick at the top of the straight then just levelled out the last part. I think he’s better with a bit of juice in the ground.”

THE OFFER – Damien Oliver
“He went super. The ground was a bit firm for him. If it had been wet he’d have been right in it.”

QUEST FOR MORE – Damian Lane
“Went super. I just couldn’t give him the room and momentum when I needed to. He probably never really hit his top.”

OUR IVANHOWE – Ben Melham
“Ran super. Got into a great spot. A run opened-up for him on the fence halfway down and the way he was travelling I thought he was going to be right in the finish but he wasn’t sharp enough.

WHO SHOT THEBARMAN – Blake Shinn
“He went well. The slow pace didn’t suit him. The run came at the 350m and I thought he would dash and we’d be there to win. He was grinding away then we were checked at the 150m. Probably cost him running fifth or sixth.”

SERTORIUS – Craig Newitt
“Ran as good as he could.”

FAME GAME – Zac Purton
“Pace was just too slow for him.”

THE UNITED STATES – Joao Moreira
“The race played in a way that didn’t help us much. I got behind a horse that was dragging me further back. I wanted to be a little closer. He finished off but was on the outside in the softer ground. Just couldn’t keep running towards the end and the ones closer to the inside just kept running.”

HARTNELL – James McDonald
“There was just no tempo. He couldn’t make up the ground.”

BONDI BEACH – Brett Prebble
“Lovely horse even though he has run down the track. Was left flat footed. It was all just too much for him too quickly.”

HOKKO BRAVE – Craig Williams
“Did a great job. Offset the barrier and got into a lovely run but got a severe bump in the straight and it took the wind out of him.”

ALMOONQITH – Dwayne Dunn
“Terrible race for me. I got smashed up early then never got into a nice rhythm.”

KINGFISHER – Colm O’Donoghue
“I was happy enough with that.”

PREFERMENT – Hugh Bowman
“Flattened at the 300m.”

GRAND MARSHAL – Jim Cassidy
“Had a beautiful run in transit. Had the winner inside me all the way. She (Michelle Payne) went up the inside and I peeled out one. I went half a furlong and got taken out of the race. I got smashed.”

SKY HUNTER – William Buick
“Gave me a great ride. Settled three deep but was in a nice rhythm. The race was stop-start. He probably didn’t quite get the trip.”

SNOW SKY – Ryan Moore
“I was running a nice race. I wasn’t going to win but found trouble in the straight.”

RED CADEAUX – Gerald Mosse
“No comment.”
