Criterion found itself as part of a pack chasing Prince of Penzance in the late stages of the race but ultimately like those around it, wasn’t able to make up the distance between itself and the race leader.
Ridden by Michael Walker and trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Criterion spent the earlier part of the year racing internationally before returning to Australia with a Group One win in the Caulfield Stakes.
That was backed up by finishing in second at the Cox Plate, albeit well behind the clear winner, Winx.
