Penrith flyer Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has knocked back the security of a longer deal to sign a one-year contract extension with the NRL club.
The Kiwi junior, whose current contract already ran into 2016, is now signed to remain at the foot of the Blue Mountains until the end of the 2017 season.
“I’ve always signed one-year deals as it gives me extra motivation and ensures I’m constantly working hard to earn my place in the team,” he said.
“The Panthers have shown great belief in my abilities and I am determined to repay that faith on the field.”
Watene-Zelezniak was forced to overcome a number of off-field setbacks in the past 12 months.
The 20-year-old spent time in hospital in July after a collapsed lung ruled him out of the remainder of the 2015 season.
He also missed out on making his Kiwis Test debut twice, firstly being ruled out through a foot injury in 2014 and then suspension in 2015.
The regular winger was forced to play at fullback in place of the injured Matt Moylan for much of the 2015 season and has scored 14 tries in 26 matches for the club.
