The Townsville Crocodiles will have their work cut out for them when they take on the Adelaide 36ers at the Townsville Entertainment Centre on Thursday night. Join The Roar from 7.30pm (AEDT) for live scores and updates.

The Crocs have been a major disappointment this season and have slumped to a 5-11 record. They have lost three of their last five games and have struggled to maintain a consistent defensive focus over the course of four quarters.

Perhaps the best summary of Townsville’s tumultuous campaign can be found in Brian Conklin. The reigning NBL MVP had been a shadow of his former self in the 13 games he suited up for the Crocs this season. In dramatic fashion, Conklin was cut by Townsville, who released him last week.

Such a move would have been unfathomable last season.

For Adelaide, treading water is no longer an option. The 36ers almost pulled off an upset victory against Melbourne United last Sunday on the back of Jerome Randle’s heroics, but with their record sliding to 7-8, inroads need to be made immediately.

Randle needs more help, as the wildly inconsistent play of seasoned veterans Ebi Ere and Adam Gibson has left too large of a load on the import’s shoulders.

With the top four beginning to solidify (Melbourne, New Zealand, Illawarra and Perth), Adelaide must go on a winning streak to cement a top four berth.

Prediction: If they play their best, Adelaide should enjoy a win. 36ers by 15 points.
