Day four of the third Test has been washed out without a ball being bowled.
Near-constant showers hit Sydney on Tuesday, when the covers stayed in place throughout the day and no play was possible.
There was more of the same heavy rain on Wednesday, with officials giving up hope of any play shortly before 1pm AEDT.
Day two of the Test between Australia and West Indies was also ruined because of rain, with only 11.2 overs of play possible.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting showers will ease on day five.
West Indies are 7-248 in the first innings of the match, with Nathan Lyon and James Pattinson both having snared two wickets.
Allrounder Mitch Marsh, speaking after day three was abandoned, wasn’t ready to concede the match would end in a draw.
“A result is up to the weather gods. If we can get a full day’s play tomorrow and the last day, we will certainly be playing for a result,” Marsh said.
However, Australia are unlikely to get any help from the visitors in the form of a sporting declaration or two, based on coach Phil Simmons’ comments on Tuesday afternoon.
“I used to hear about that in county cricket. I don’t know about it in a Test match,” Simmons laughed, when asked about the possibility of a double declaration.
“We’ve got to see how much play we get tomorrow (Wednesday) first.”
Australia retained the Frank Worrell trophy with a 177-run win over West Indies in Melbourne.
The hosts hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.
