2015 champion Viktor Troicki faces a tough task when he defends his title against Grigor Dimitrov in the 2016 Sydney International men’s singles final. Join The Roar for live scores from the match, starting around 7:30pm AEDT.

World No.22 Troicki could become the first back-to-back winner of the tournament since James Blake in 2006 and 2007 tonight but to do so he will have to knock off Dimitrov, the World No.28.

Should Troicki do so he would join other multiple-time Sydney champions, a list which includes some pretty big names like Lleyton Hewitt and Pete Sampras.

Last year he had a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 win over Mikhail Kukushkin, but on this occasion he is heading in as the underdog with betting agencies against Dimitrov.

A significant part of the reason for this is that the two men met at the Brisbane International earlier this month and Dimitrov was able to take the win on that occasion, defeating Troicki 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 in the second round. He has a 2-0 all time record over Troicki.

Dimitrov has come into this match having wins over Pablo Cuevas, Alexandr Dolgopolov and Gilles Muller, while Troicki’s path to the final has come through matches against Tommy Robredo, Nicolas Mahut and Teymuraz Gabashvili.

Troicki’s matches against Mahut and Gabashvili both came in gruelling three-set encounters and so the major question for him will be whether he has enough left in the tank to last out a match with Dimitrov, especially if it goes to three sets once again.

Under new coach Franco Davin, Dimitrov is off to a strong start this year and looking to make a charge up the world rankings. He’s had an easier path to this final with only his match against Dolgopolov going to a third set.

Prediction: Dimitrov looks better placed what could be a precursor to a strong Australian Open appearance. Dimitrov in three sets.
