2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic will look to book his place in the Australian Open third round when he takes on Albert Ramos-Vinolas. Join The Roar for live scores from 1pm (AEDT).

Cilic struggled in his opening round victory over Thiemo de Bakker and will need to improve if he hopes to make light work of Ramos-Vinolas.

The Croatian owns a positive 2-1 head-to-head record over the Spaniard but all those matches have been well-contested affairs.

Although their last encounter was back in 2013, expect today’s contest to be well fought-out between two players who possess the potential to shake up the men’s draw.

Ramos-Vinolas notched up an impressive win over promising Croatian Borna Coric in the first round, and approaches today’s contest full of confidence.

The Spaniard is no stranger to causing an upset on the men’s tour, with his biggest win to date coming last year at the Shanghai Masters against none other than Roger Federer.

Cilic starts as favourite, but it wouldn’t surprise to see the Croatian drop a set or two given his unconvincing display against de Bakker in the opening round.

At his best, Cilic is a great player to watch, with forehand, backhand and serve all notable weapons in his arsenal. His triumph at the US Open two years ago is testament to the talent he possesses, and if on song, he can challenge for major honours at this tournament.

While he will not get everything his own way against Ramos-Vinolas, Cilic’s class should eventually shine through in four tight sets.
