Mitchell Pearce has spoken to the media for the first time following the release of a video recording that featured him simulating a sex act with a dog on Australia Day.

In a very brief statement, a visibly emotional Pearce apologised for the incident and said with the help of the Sydney Roosters he would be working to address his issues with alcohol.

“I’d like to apologise to everyone for my actions under the last couple of days,” Mitchell said. “My behaviour was unacceptable.

“I have a problem with alcohol. It’s not an excuse but I realise I need help.

“Together with the club I’m working on a solution for me to address these issues.”
