Carlton midfielder Patrick Cripps has taken a leap of faith on the Blues, extending his contract until the end of 2019.

The 20-year-old, who was already signed until the end of 2017, is seen as a key figure at the club as they look to rebuild after a disastrous 2015 season.

“We’re definitely going down the right direction now and some of the young boys we’ve got in are very exciting talents,” he told the club’s website.

“It will all come down to how hard we want to work as a group and as a team and also as individuals.

“If we can work hard and fast track our development, and you never know how long it’s going to take, but hopefully by then we are really competing for the premiership.”

None of the club’s young talent are as impressive as Cripps though.

Finishing second in the Rising Star award behind Melbourne’s Jesse Hogan, Cripps was the club’s best-and-fairest winner last year, averaging 6.5 clearances, five tackles and 24 possessions per game.

“I feel a little bit of expectation, I feel a little bit overwhelmed,” he said.
