Unlike yesterday, Stage 3 of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour should end in certain mass sprint finish.

The 146 kilometres between Traralgon and Inverloch are fairly lumpy in the first half of the race, but after the riders move past both category three climbs – the first after 47 kilometres in Boolara and the second after 61 kilometres in Mirboo North – the roads become less of a hassle all the way to the line.

The only other obstacles on today’s stage are two intermediate sprints, which come in close succession after 113 kilometres through the finishing town of Inverloch and a further 12 kilometres along in Wonthaggi.

The final 30 kilometres are fairly close to the coast, so crosswinds could play a part for the riders. It could isolate a team in the final like Orica-GreenEDGE, who will be tasked with chasing down the breakaway for Caleb Ewan.

The lead in to the finale is fairly simple with a straight run in, perfect for the sprint teams to go at it without any real need to worry about getting boxed in the finale.

This is a stage for Caleb Ewan to win, and if he doesn’t I will be extremely surprised.

His stunning win yesterday on an extremely difficult final was simply superb and it will take a minor miracle to beat him.

Other riders that could round out the podium include Luke Rowe (Sky), Niccolo Bonafazio (Trek), John Murphy (UHC), Steele von Hoff (One Pro Cycling), Russel Downing (JLT Condor), Anthony Giacoppo (Avanti) and Jesse Kerrison (State of Matter).
