Johny Hendricks takes on Stephen Thompson in a welterweight battle with big title implications. Join The Roar from 2pm (AEDT) for live commentary.
Former UFC welterweight champion and now #2 Hendricks may be just one more win away from earning a chance to hold the 170-pound belt again.
After losing his title in a split-decision against Robbie Lawler, Hendricks came back to beat Matt Brown via unanimous decision.
Hendricks, who has had problems with his weight cuts in the past, says he is in the best shape of his life, and will be ready to make a statement.
Since his one loss to Brown, via decision in 2012, #8 Thompson has been on a tear, riding a five-fight win streak.
After a devastating first-round finish over Jake Ellenberger in his last bout, Thompson has the chance to take out a former champion, and earn a shot at becoming a champion in the process.
If Hendricks enters the octagon on a much more effective weight cut, he may be a different animal. Thompson has spectacular stand-up, but if Hendricks can close the distance, he should get the decision.
Prediction
Johny Hendricks to defeat Stephen Thompson via unanimous decision.
