Manchester United remains in the running for a Champions League spot and will fancy their chances of victory against struggling Premier League giants Chelsea FC. Join The Roar for live scores from 3am AEDT.

After a nil-all draw against Watford, Chelsea remain over 15 points adrift of fourth placed Arsenal, who currently hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

It’s been a sorry campaign for last season’s champions and it is unlikely that they will rise up the ladder and secure a Champions League spot by season’s end.

Chelsea’s star-studded roster has performed poorly across the board with only Brazilian star Willian standing out with some exceptional efforts to get the London club out of trouble.

The fall of Eden Hazard in particular sums up Chelsea’s campaign so far. The Belgian started the season as a player touted as perhaps one of the five best players in the world. Reality though demonstrates that he still has plenty of improving to do before fans can place him alongside true greats like seasoned performers Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Suarez and Neymar.

Chelsea overall have not been a force to be reckoned with this season, particularly when playing at Stamford Bridge.

In times gone by, the majority of Chelsea’s opposition saw winning at Stamford Bridge as almost impossible. That aura however has vanished with Chelsea’s winning percentage at home this season below 40 per cent.

With this in mind, Manchester United have every right to believe that they can secure a vital win away from home that keeps them in the running for a Champions League spot.

United are coming off a good win over Stoke City but their performances remain unconvincing. Today’s contest could end up being a very dire affair given the inconsistent performances from both teams this season.

United striker Wayne Rooney remains the player most likely to cause Chelsea trouble today. Anthony Martial will also need to be kept in check by Chelsea after the Frenchman left his mark with a great goal against Stoke.

Willian meanwhile has often been the player responsible for igniting Chelsea’s attack this season. The Brazilian has also established himself as one of the best freekick takers in the world this season so United will be keen to avoid giving away freekicks in dangerous areas.

With Chelsea unconvincing at home this season, United are a realistic chance of causing the upset here, particularly if Rooney and Martial fire upfront.
