La Rocca cops three-game A-League ban

Adelaide United utility Iacopo La Rocca has been slapped with a three-match A-League ban for violent conduct against Sydney FC’s Matt Simon.

La Rocca appeared to send a stray elbow into Simon’s face during the 2-2 draw at Coopers Stadium on Friday night, in a ground-level off-the-ball incident missed by the referee.

The pair brought each other to the turf after a challenge, with La Rocca’s offending action coming as he returned to his feet.

After reviewing a submission lodged by Adelaide on their player’s behalf, the match review panel ruled La Rocca would serve a mandatory one-game suspension plus two additional matches.

It means the 31-year-old will miss Sunday’s away clash with Central Coast, along with the following two games against Melbourne Victory and Brisbane.

Simon recovered to head an equalising goal for Sydney in the first half while La Rocca was substituted just before halftime.

The Italian said a groin complaint was unlikely to lead to any further time out.
