Farah named by Tigers for NRL trial

All Stars no show Robbie Farah will run out for the Wests Tigers in Saturday night’s NRL trial against Melbourne on the Sunshine Coast.

Farah had initially been picked to feature in the World All Stars side that will tackle the Indigenous team on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium.

However, the hooker withdrew from the showcase event because he had won a ticket to see Monday’s Super Bowl 50 in the United States.

He reportedly paid $15,000 in a charity auction to win a seat at the Super Bowl played at Levi’s Stadium, home of Jarryd Hayne’s San Francisco 49ers.

Farah instead will don the Tigers’ colours at Sunshine Coast Stadium at Kawana Waters this weekend after being named in a strong squad that also features recruits Jordan Rankin, Tim Grant, Josh Aloiai and Jesse Parahi.

Ten players who featured in the NRL Auckland Nines last weekend – including other off-season signings Josh Addo-Carr, Michael Chee Kam, Rod Griffin and Jack Littlejohn – have also been named.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing a lot of the guys play, in particular some of the new recruits who will get their first run of the year this weekend,” Tigers coach Jason Taylor said.

“We’ve done some really good work in training with plenty of opposed sessions, which aimed at putting us under the pressure of game situations, but there’s nothing like actually playing an opposition team.

“Coming up against the Melbourne Storm, who are strong side, will give us a much better feel for how things are going once we get this game under our belt.”
