It’s pretty unlikely that with the current set of Australia’s quarantine laws that a five star Showjumping event will be held on our shores for quite some time. But if you could take those rules away, what would be the ultimate location for a five star Showjumping event in Australia?

I’ve put together a short list of what places around Australia would make a great venue.

5. The Royal Exibition Building, Melbourne
With it’s elegant, classical architecture, this Melbourne venue suits a classy international show. Temporary grandstands could be set up easily on the side, and there’s plenty of room for temporary stables and infrastructure.

Estimated capacity: 2000.

4. Perth Arena, Perth

This modern arena would make a good venue for a Showjumping weekend. With seating already arranged, a sand arena wouldn’t be hard to construct. Corporate boxes already exist. Capacity: 15,000.

3. Commonwealth Place, Canberra
This plaza and park in the Act would be in my opinion a breathtaking venue to hold a Showjumping event, situated about two blocks away from Parliament and on the shores of Lake Griffin. With a stunning backdrop, competitors and fans would like the venue alike. Estimated capacity: 4000

2. Melbourne Showgrounds, Melbourne, Australia
This is a dedicated equestrian venue with 9,000 square metre arena and stables on site. Capacity: 4000

1. Government House and Royal Gardens, Sydney, Australia
Another possible venue with famous landmarks for a backdrop, The Opera House and Sydney Habour Bridge, a temporary arena could be constructed in the gardens, with stables and facilities.
