Golden Easter egg night tips

There’s plenty of sport in Sydney over the Easter weekend to keep you occupied, and the annual Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park on Saturday night has produced an intriguing race.

Beyond that, there are a couple of other nice races including the Magic Maiden for the youngsters and the Association Cup for the stayers.

Early markets have Moreira as favourite in front of Dawkins Bale, who is looking to go one better than his second to the champion Fernando Bale last year. Dawkins Bale is quite awkwardly drawn, with the two other speedy greyhounds in the race, Knight Sprite and Asa Killer Queen, drawn directly on his outside.

Being a three-week series, the Golden Easter Egg often advantages greyhounds that run a strong 520 metres. Moreira, Brad Hill Billy, Rare Pearl and Mitcharlie Mia all fall into this category and all four are quite well drawn.

While there wasn’t much between Brad Hill Billy and Mitcharlie Mia when they met in their respective heats, I fancy Mitcharlie Mia at the odds, currently around $9 in early markets. I can see Asa Killer Queen getting across to lead from box six and cramping the inside greyhounds for room, but I don’t think it can hold out any of the four if they get behind her. Take Mitcharlie Mia from Brad Hill Billy and Asa Killer Queen in the exotics.

On first glance, Benteke looks very hard to beat in the Magic Maiden. However, looking at the first sections, Kay Dee Em looks likely to lead and wants to scout off the track a bit. I personally don’t like taking short odds about youngsters, there’s usually plenty of improvement in them and often it’s worth looking for a bit of value.

Fabulous Five was a very good run after bombing the start last week and could easily find himself sitting off the leader. He could probably give Kay Dee Em five or six lengths off the back and beat him, so I’m going his way to beat Wicked Warrior and Kay Dee Em to fill the exotics.

The Association Cup for the stayers is also an intriguing race, with heat winners Come On Fantasy and Dublin Bull drawing next to each other. While Lioness Lulu was a pretty good run, 57 starts for five wins is a bit of a worry in a Group 1.

Phantom Reign drawn in one has the potential to annoy Come On Fantasy and Dublin Bull early, but I fancy that Dublin Bull wants to use a bit of the track himself. I’m going Dublin Bull and Lioness Lulu, with Phantom Reign a bit of value in the exotics. In other races, Skate Thin Ice is the sort of greyhound you want to be on from inside draws.

Good luck and good punting!
