TWO GOOD! Zahra wins back-to-back Melbourne Cups on Without a Fight as three horses pull up lame
Without a Fight completed the rare Caulfield Cup-Melbourne Cup double on Tuesday as star jockey Mark Zahra went back-to-back in the big one after…
The Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) has a short priced favourite in Tarzino that will be extremely hard to beat. Join The Roar shortly after the race start time of 3:50pm AEDT for results of the race.
Tarzino has really attacked the line hard after getting back in fast-run races. History beckons for the Mick Price runner who is trying to emulate what the great Dulcify and the extraordinarily versatile Mahogany have done since the Australian Derby was switched to the autumn in 1979.

He’s rated just under a $2 chance to do it, however history is most certainly against him. Tarzino has earned the name T-Rex because of his ability to bite staff that handle him. Craig Newitt believes he can’t see Tarzino getting beaten this week especially after the barrier trials, he hasn’t run this distance before and has never been on this track which will make things interesting.
Tally has flourished this preparation and has won four on the top showing some really good ability. The three-year-old colt is the best chance of knocking off Tarzino and is one of three runners including Tarzino that is under double figure odds.
Jameka sustained long, wide run in Guineas. Co-led in slowly run race and stuck on well against males in the latest run. However like the previous two has questions over this track and distance. But is single figure odds so is well rated to be competitive here.
Vanbrugh loves this track and has two wins from three starts, ran a really good final 600m last time, hasn’t run this distance so another one that has question marks. For mine is some pretty good value here at double figure odds.
You can never under rate Chris Waller horses and he has been absolutely fantastic again this preparation. So you must think Torgersen is a chance and at $17 is worth a look in your multiples.
What’s The Story is the only other runner possibly worth considering after just missing in the New Zealand Derby.
