It has been announced that Australia will tour Sri Lanka for a three-Test series which is set to begin on July 26 in Kandy.
Alongside the Test series, Australia will gear up to play five One-Day Internationals and two T20Is.
It has been five years since Australia last played a Test match in Sri Lanka, but having returned to the top of rankings after an emphatic series win against New Zealand back in February, Steve Smith’s side will be full of confidence.
They will no doubt be the favourites heading into the Test arena having only lost one Test from 13 matches in Sri Lanka.
Australia’s last visit to Sri Lanka for Test matches saw them come away 1-0 winners in a three-Test series.
An interesting fact to take in is that only three members of the side that defeated the Black Caps back in February have experienced the subcontinent of Sri Lanka for Test matches.
The experience that Nathan Lyon, Usman Khawaja and Peter Siddle gained will be valuable to the side.
Australia’s record in all forms of cricket against Sri Lanka in their own backyard is six wins, six draws and one loss from 13 Tests. From 25 ODIs there have been nine wins, 13 losses and three no results.
Both of the two Twenty20 games between the sides have ended in a Sri Lanka victory.
