Ahoy Roarers! My final preview of the Autumn focuses on the conclusion of the Sydney Autumn Carnival this Saturday at Randwick, with a Group 1 double header.

It starts off with the Champagne Stakes (1600m), where it just looks a formality for 9 Yankee Rose if she turns up with four legs and a normal set of lungs. She almost defied history to win the Slipper first up before spanking her rivals in the Sires Produce. The $1.50 that was first offered for her at the start of the week was generous. She just wins.

Next best is the filly that ran third in the Sires, 10 Faraway Town. She was also second up in that race and she closed off strongly late between runners for an eye catching third, albeit well beaten. I can’t see her turning the tables on Yankee Rose, but she does have upside herself and she is bred to swim, so any give in the track will boost her claims.

7 Obscura was scratched from the Fernhill (1600m) last weekend to be saved for this horse. She was one of the runs of the day on BMW Day at Rosehill given he came from near last and out wide, where it was near impossible to make any significant ground. Stable is low flying, especially after the deeds during the week at Warwick Farm, and this horse will eat up the Randwick mile.

The other Group 1 on the program is the All Aged Stakes (1400m) and while it lacks deep numbers, the depth is very strong. I think Chris Waller will continue his amazing Group 1 run courtesy of 6 Press Statement, who comes here with fresh legs after running a game third to stablemate and champion mare Winx in the George Ryder (1500m).

Form has been well and truly franked, draws to be in the clear and Bowman is back on. Looks the winner.

I have enormous respect for the former Perth star 2 Black Heart Bart, who is now with Darren Weir. He almost defied 100 years of history by winning the Newmarket (1200m) fresh but was nabbed on the line by The Quarterback before going to the Victoria Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield and while he handled the corners as well as a Gold Coast Suns player on a Saturday night, he still got the job done.

I can only see upside and third up last time in he beat Group 1 winner Magnifisio and star mare Delicacy.

Best of the rest looks 1 Kermadec, who didn’t pull up 100 per cent after his failure in the Doncaster (1600m) behind Winx. He is much better than that and on his George Ryder second to Winx, he’d be the horse to beat. Trainer Chris Waller wouldn’t persist this prep unless he was happy with the horse, so he has to go in as a major chance.

In other races at Randwick
. Therese looks a great each-way bet in the Highway
. Mohave can sprint well fresh in the second
. Old North, with luck from the gate, wins the Frank Packer
. Pearls to show her class in the Carr
. Speak Fondly to bounce back in the Hall Mark
. Havana Cooler to continue his path towards Brisbane with a win in the JRA Plate
. Nancy looks the best of the day in the last.
