Edwina Tops Alexander is by far the most successful Australian showjumper of the 21st Century, and some consider her to even be the best there is in the showjumping world.

She’s won the Global Champions Tour twice, and has earned over 3,077,487 Euros competing, and has officially earned the most amount of money competing in the GCTct (Global Champions Tour).

She has represented Australia at two Olympic Games, and has got her eyes set on gold in Rio. To celebrate her win at the Miami round of the GCT last weekend, let’s have a look back at the top five moments of her career.

5: Making the move to Europe
In 1995, Edwina won the Australian Young Riders Championship, and in order to make a career out of showjumping, she made the extremely tough and risky call to try her luck on the European Circuit. She had great success competing against some of the most experienced riders in the world.

4: Largely injury free
At the Estoril Grand Prix in 2007, Edwina was thrown headfirst into a fence. She split her upper lip and her teeth sliced into her lower lip, but luckily Edwina hasn’t been hurt in any other competitions since then.

3: Her involvement in furthering showjumping as a sport
Edwina and her husband, Jan Tops, created the Global Champions Tour in 2006.

It’s an international showjumping series that includes the top 30 riders from around the world.

It has had great success, getting many people interested and involved in showjumping. It has also set the standard for International shows around the world, by taking competitions to locations such as Miami, Doha, Shanghai, Mexico, Antwerp, and Paris.

2: Itot Du Chateau
Itot is by far Edwina’s most successful horse, carrying Edwina to her 2011 and 2012 Gct season victories, two Olympics, and many other show wins.

Edwina retired Itot in 2014 at the Paris round of the Global Champions Tour. As quoted by Edwina herself “He’s a small horse with a big heart’.

1: Winning the GCT at Miami
Last weekend, Edwina won the Miami round of the GCT in one of the closest jump offs. She was pitched against McLain Ward, with his mare HH Azur. Edwina was riding Lintea Tequila, a fiery 13-year-old mare.

Starting last in the jump off, she set a perfect time and won the round. She now leads the GCT leader board.

There we are, my top five Edwina Tops-Alexander moments.
