Manly have run out deserving 26-10 winners here at Hunter Stadium this afternoon, after leading 10-6 at half-time. The first 60 minutes of the game were entertaining, but the last 20 were sloppy with poor handling from both sides.
REPORT: MANLY HEAP WOE ON KNIGHTS
A Manly try to Brenton Lawrence on the stroke of half-time was crucial, as was Jarrod Mullen tearing his hamstring midway through the second half after making a break. Newcastle looked set to score, and were trailing 20-10 at the time so a try would have made it very interesting. But Manly were able to steady and close out the match.
Mullen looks set for an extended period on the sidelines. Manly will be sweating on injuries to Brett Stewart and Tom Trbjoveic, who both left the field with leg injuries during the match. Steve Matai spent time in the sin bin in the first half for a professional foul.

The only way is up for Newcastle after their 53-0 thumping by the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium last week. Manly will also be hoping to get back on the winner’s list after going down 22-10 to Parramatta at home at Brookvale Oval last week.
Coach Nathan Brown has made a few changes to the Knights team that faced the Broncos last week. Danny Levi will start at hooker in place of Tyler Randell, who drops back to the bench.
Veteran co-captain Jeremy Smith returns at lock to play his 200th NRL game, and prop Mickey Paea has been named in the 18-man Newcastle squad. Interchange forward Pauli Pauli is out this week through suspension, and last week’s starting prop Jack Stockwell has been dropped.
Manly have also named an 18-man squad, with hooker Matt Parcell, winger Brayden Wiliame and interchange forward Brenton Lawrence returning to the team. Winger Jorge Taufua and interchange forward Josh Starling are both out, while last week’s starting hooker Lewis Brown returns to the bench.
Daly Cherry-Evans is still on the injured list for the Sea Eagles, and Api Koroisau will once again take his place at halfback. He has done a great job in the past three matches.
Knights fans will be hoping for an improved showing this week in both attack and defence. They currently have the second-worst attacking record in the NRL this season, averaging just 13 points a game. Manly, on the other hand, need a win to stay in touch with the top eight
Prediction
Newcastle will put in an improved performance but Manly should be too strong.
