Leicester City are one win away from completing one of the biggest underdog stories in the history of sport – becoming the Premier League champions for 2015-16.

Seven points ahead with just three games left to play, it seems almost impossible that the Foxes could let the title slip out of their hands.

A year ago, Leicester City were in danger of being relegated. Next season, they will join the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

However, Leicester’s incredible story represents so much more than underdogs rising to the occasion.

Club football is often criticised because the general consensus is that the rich sides will win the and the ‘poor’ sides usually have no chance. This is part of the reason people love the Premier League – it can be unpredictable. However, despite the unpredictability of the league, the big four sides usually reign supreme.

But Leicester City have broken that stereotype, and shown that sometimes no amount of money can buy quality.

The Foxes’ usual starting XI have a total cost of $AU39.4 million.

Compare that to Manchester City’s eighth most expensive player, David Silva, who cost $AU45 million.

For the price of Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, you could buy over 50 of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez – who recently won the PFA Player of the Year award.

Leicester’s key to victory has been their consistency all over the pitch. Jamie Vardy is finishing chances, N’golo Kante remains active from the back, and Mahrez is controlling the midfield and finding the space to feed his forwards.

Leicester are playing a simple, active and effective game. Not all of their wins are pretty, but they’re treating every match as if it’s the most important of their lives. They try from the first whistle to the last – and we love them for it.

This is something that other clubs in the Premier League have failed to do, despite the quality and depth in their squads – they are throwing away valuable points and don’t seem to mind.

Leicester City’s passion reminds us why we love the beautiful game, and we welcome the image of the Foxes lifting the coveted Premier League trophy.

To many, this is a once in a lifetime event, but if Leicester City can do it, there is no reason that any other side can’t.
