Western Force lock Adam Coleman has extended his stay with the Super Rugby franchise, signing on with the side for an extra year.

Coleman was due to come off contract at the end for this season, however, the 24-year-old will now remain out west until the end of 2017, with the option to stay on further.

“I’m really happy to be staying on for another year,” Coleman said. “I’m really enjoying playing Super Rugby and really enjoying my time here at the Western Force so I want to put all my time in here and make the most of it.”

After making his Super Rugby debut for the Waratahs against the Force in 2013, Coleman moved to the Perth-based franchise and has since racked up 35 appearances.

He came close to representing the Wallabies last year, named as a member of Michael Cheika’s initial train-on squad for the Rugby World Cup before missing the final cut, and says an Australian jersey is on his mind.

“I’ve always got aspirations to play for the Wallabies but my main goal as it always has been is to play well for the Force and making sure we are succeeding. If I can do my job well for the Force and then Wallabies opportunities come later down the track then I’ll take it as it comes.”

The Force have endured a tough 2016 so far, currently sitting second-last in the overall standings with just the one win for the season coming against a lacklustre Queensland Reds side. However, head coach Michael Foley said Coleman’s re-signing is a positive sign for the club.

“As we’ve seen over the past three years Adam has made massive progress and you have to secure talents like that early,” he said. “The progress he has made is noticed by everybody and the fact that we’ve been able to resecure his services and have a player that has developed here and cares about the team is really important.”

“If Adam keeps playing the way he is, there’s no doubt he is an international prospect of the future.”
