Brumbies CEO agrees to mediation

The Brumbies will attempt to bring an end to its impasse with chief executive Michael Jones through formal mediation.

Jones on Thursday accepted an offer of mediation from the Super Rugby club’s board, a week after rejecting a proposal to mutually part ways following a meeting with chairman Robert Kennedy.

The process is expected to start on Friday.

The CEO was stood down by the club’s board in March, two days after a radio interview in which he referenced a suppressed KPMG report into the Brumbies’ finances that is under police investigation.

Jones was awarded temporary protection under whistleblower laws the next day, which was upheld by the ACT Supreme Court last Thursday allowing him to keep his job.

However the ruling by Justice Richard Refshauge included an order that effectively granted the club permission to sack Jones – provided it’s for any other, unrelated reason and with five days written notice.
