The unfortunate extent of Kieran Foran’s issues have been revealed, with the Parramatta Eels captain reportedly taken to hospital after overdosing on prescription medicine earlier this week.

Fairfax Media are reporting Foran “was rushed to St Vincent’s hospital in Darlinghurst after suffering an adverse reaction to medication he has been taking.”

Fairfax say there is no suspicion of Foran’s incident bearing resemblance to that of Dylan Walker and Aaron Gray at the end of last NRL season.

Foran was absent from duty for part of this week, having been struggling with personal problems, and has since been granted indefinite leave from football by the Eels.

This comes on the back of Foran dealing with the breakdown of his relationship with his partner Rebecca Pope, with whom he has two children.

Foran is also said to be battling with former club the Manly Sea Eagles over payments owed to him, to the tune of $140,000.

Speaking at a press conference, Parramatta CEO John Boulos said, “Most of [Foran’s] teammates knew there was an issue.

“We’re going to give him some time away from the game to get himself better. It’s a very private issue for Kieran. He’s someone we need at our club.

“Moving forward Kieran will be given as much time as he wants and needs to get right.

“All I know is he’s getting help and he has some wonderful people around him. He’s got some personal problems … he needed help and put his hand up.”

None of these issues were apparent in Foran’s on-field performances, with the Kiwi star a pillar of success during the Eels’ 5-3 start to the NRL season.

As far as a return to football goes, reports have variously stated between three weeks and a month, but Boulos said, “I won’t put a time frame on [his return], this is a decision for Kieran.”

The Roar wishes Kieran Foran all the best during this difficult time.
