Unfortunately, both of these sides appear out of the running to push for playoff spots this season and neither side can bring any immediate recent form to the table but we still have what promises to be an exciting and open match-up this evening.

This shapes as a classic encounter between two very different styles, the speed of the Cheetahs versus the power of the Reds, particularly in the backlines.

The Reds will look to build on their impressive set piece and they will favour themselves against a Cheetahs side with a sporadic set piece. This will allow the Reds to unleash their big ball runners, in particular Samu Kerevi at centre and Eto Nabuli to wreak havoc on the Cheetahs defence.

The onus will be placed on the Reds’ halves, Nick Frisby and Jake McIntyre, to control the game with the platform their forwards should be able to provide and keep the Cheetahs pinned in their own half however execution will be key as offering up soft counter attacking opportunities to the likes of Sergeal Petersen will have the Reds chasing shadows all night.

With the likes of Petersen and Raymond Rhule for the Cheetahs, pace is where their obvious strength lies and we can expect plenty of ball movement from the Cheetahs this evening while the pack will need a strong performance from Lodewyk de Jager in the Cheetahs pack against a solid Reds pack.

A match up to keep an eye on will be between two of the opposing wings, Petersen and Nabuli. A mouth-watering clash this promises to be and hopefully both players will have several opportunities with ball in hand.

Another key match-up will be between de Jager and the Reds Rob Simmons, the two locks pivotal to their respective sides overall performance and in particular the set piece while Reds fans will be hoping for another standout performance from openside Liam Gill and potentially, another drop goal.

Tip – Reds by 12. I feel the Reds will have too much power out wide for the Cheetahs to control.
