Hello Roarers and welcome to this week’s update on The Roar AFL MVP! We saw some great footy and some not so great footy over the weekend – see below who our live blogging team thought was the best of the best.

Votes

North Melbourne Kangaroos 61 defeated Western Bulldogs 45
Blogged by Matthew Walsh

3: Jarrad Waite – In a low scoring game Waite was the difference, the only multiple goal scorer with four majors, to go with seven marks.

2: Lachie Hunter – With 44 possessions he was the Bulldogs’ best, extremely productive and was everywhere particularly in the second quarter.

1: Scott D Thompson – 26 possessions, 9 marks and kept Jake Stringer very quiet, a steel wall in defence.

Melbourne Demons 96 defeated by St Kilda Saints 135
Blogged by Shannon Russell

3: Blake Acres – A breakout game for the third-year Saint, Acres had 28 touches, seven marks, two goals and two goal assists.

2: Nick Riewoldt – A typically magnificent effort from the Saints skipper, Riewoldt pulled down 14 marks and kicked three goals.

1: Jesse Hogan – Seven goals was a superstar performance from Hogan, but he just didn’t get enough support from his teammates to get Melbourne over the line.

Adelaide Crows 97 defeated Fremantle Dockers 64
Blogged by Joel Erickson

3: Rory Sloane – Was the best player in the winning side. Kicked a very deserving goal to put the cherry on top of his performance.

2: Michael Walters – Probably the best individual player on the ground with 29 touches and 3 goals, just couldn’t bring myself to give him the maximum votes.

1: Eddie Betts – 17 disposals and 4 goals. Just another day out for the Crows superstar.

GWS Giants 158 defeated Hawthorn Hawks 83

3: Dylan Shiel – It began with Shiel. He was the dominant player in the opening stages of the game when GWS got on top and was the game’s best player at stoppages over the duration. He finished with 34 touches and 8 clearances.

2: Heath Shaw – Cleaned up in the backline with authority, working to get to every defensive contest. 32 possessions, eleven marks, and nine rebound-50s.

1: Steve Johnson – He had five goals to half time and was the game’s best player at that stage. When the Hawks made their run in the second quarter he was the one to step up for GWS. He didn’t have the same impact in the second half but deserves to be among the votes.

Geelong Cats 168 defeated Gold Coasts Suns 48
Blogged by Lou Lando

3: Jimmy Bartel – The 2007 Brownlow winner wound the clock back on Saturday night with 30 disposals and six clearances.

2: Joel Selwood – 32 touches, seven clearances and a goal was another very strong showing from the Geelong skipper.

1: Patrick Dangerfield – Dangerous around the stoppages and around the goals, Dangerfield finished with 30 disposals and two goals for the night.

Richmond Tigers 59 defeated by Port Adelaide Power 94
Blogged by Connor Bennett

3: Shaun Grigg – 32 touches and a pair of goals was a productive outing for Grigg on a night where few of his teammates contributed.

2: Matthew Broadbent – In the absence of some of his team’s stars, Broadbent really stepped up for Port with his huge goal from outside 50 being the highlight.

1: Jarman Impey – Sent to the forward line after spending much of his career so far in defence, Impey impressed, popping with three goals.

Brisbane Lions 94 defeated by Sydney Swans 97
Blogged by Jake Rosengarten

3: Dayne Zorko – Had an absolute blinder in a losing team. Picked up possession wonderfully in midfield and his running game provided some much-needed speed through the middle. Deserved a victory today.

2: Luke Parker – Popped up when the Swans needed him most. A number of clutch tackles and marks at key times in the game ensured his presence was one of the most influential on the park. Racked up 29 possessions as well as 3 goals. A great outing.

1: Lance Franklin – Was the difference on the day. Provided a focal point to the Swans attack and was perennially dangerous in the forward 50. Booted five goals including some absolute screamers.

Carlton Blues 72 defeated Essendon Bombers 57
Blogged by Lou Lando

3: Dale Thomas – Played probably his best game for Carlton so far or close to, with 31 touches and a goal.

2: Adam Cooney – 28 touches and five clearances, a key cog for the Bombers through the midfield.

1: Marc Murphy – Huge in the last quarter when the game was won. 26 touches, five clearances and a goal.

West Coast Eagles 124 defeated Collingwood Magpies 62
Blogged by Shannon Russell

3: Mark LeCras – Set up the Eagles early lead with a busy first term and finished the match with 27 touches and three goals.

2: Brad Sheppard – Important in defence, finished with 21 touches, seven marks and three rebound 50s.

1: Luke Shuey – 25 disposals, six clearances and two goal assists, another strong showing.
