Under the Southern Cross I weep

I’m a dumb regional supporter of rugby league. I try to go to games but can’t, and cannot afford pay TV.

I subscribed to the free NRL app on Telstra, but it doesn’t work on my phone.

Last week I learnt some terrible news. Channel Nine has bedded up with Southern Cross.

I don’t even know where that station is.

I watch Channel Nine. I listen to the Nine commentators. I get told about all the great programmes on Nine.

I have kids. They tell me about all the great programmes on ABC for kids.

I have recollections of watching The Simpsons (is that show still on?) and rugby league on the same channel, but surely that is my imagination?

The coverage maps for Southern Cross are not as big as WIN, which previously broadcast the rugby league. They don’t cover the great expansion states of Western Australia, South Australia, the Northern Territory and regional Queensland.

And don’t even mention New Zealand.

I’m led to believe that soon my problems will be solved – I will have to use a Telstra subscription, but not a Telstra phone, as it has the best coverage across Australia.

I’ll be able to watch rugby league in all its four-inch glory – meanwhile, my HD TV will broadcast Peppa Pig.

A WIN for all.
