Over the weekend the UFC broke grounds in a new market, taking Fight Night 87 to Rotterdam, Netherlands, for the first ever event on Dutch soil.

In an entertaining card featuring fighters from almost every weight-class, including the two women’s divisions, it was the home grown talent that shone the brightest as the Dutch went three for three – each picking up a $50,000 ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus for their work.

In the main event of the evening, Alistair Overeem scored an impressive finish over Jackson Wink-teammate Andrei Arlovski with the flashy striking that we’ve come to expect from the elite Dutch kickboxer.

After a back and forth first round, Overeem came out strong in the second, landing a crane kick and left hand combination which dazed Arlovski.

Overeem followed up with a barrage of right hands on the canvas just seconds later, drawing the TKO at 1:12 of the second round to claim his ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus and complete the clean sweep for Dutch fighters on home soil.

In the co-main event, Stefan Struve made short work of former heavyweight title challenger Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, taking just 17 seconds to get the job done and secure his ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.

From the outset of the fight, Bigfoot looked to engage Struve in the clinch, running right into a short right hand from the towering Dutchman. A huge knee that followed dropped Silva to the canvas where a series of elbows secured the TKO for Stefan Struve at 0:17 of Round 1.

Earlier on the main card, Germaine de Randamie earned her first ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus with her first round TKO of Anna Elmose in the bantamweight division. De Randamie utilised her size and strength advantage to control Elmose in the clinch, delivering a number of strong knees throughout the first three minutes.

Eventually, Elmose could take no more, with one final knee to the body producing the TKO win for de Randamie, much to the delight of her home crowd.

Gunnar Nelson was the only foreigner to secure a $50,000 bonus for the evening, claiming his ‘Performance of the Night’ with a second round submission of Albert Tumenov in their welterweight clash.

The Icelandic Nelson was consistently faster with his hands in the first round, and looked good on his feet before he managed to stuff a takedown and wind up on top of Tumenov.

On the mat he was able to deal out significant damage with some heavy elbows before the round ended. The second stanza looked headed in the same direction for Tumenov, as Nelson this time sought the takedown, and again moved seamlessly in full mount.

With three minutes left to work this time though, Nelson was able to finish the job as he transitioned to the back of Tumenov, utilising a tight body lock and a brutal neck crank to elicit the tap at 3:15 of the second round.
