Manchester United can go a long way to securing a Champions League spot for next season with a win against West Ham United tonight. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:30am AEST.

With a game in hand, United has the chance to leapfrog rivals Manchester City into the fourth and last Champions League spot available on the Premier League ladder.

As it stands, City are two points ahead of United courtesy of their draw against Arsenal a few days ago. The Red Devils however still have six competition points to play for while City only have three.

With this in mind, if United manage to secure victory against West Ham tonight, they will put themselves in the box seat to secure Champions League qualification given that they are at home to struggling Bournemouth in their last match of the season.

A draw however against West Ham complicates United’s goals severely, given that a City victory in their last match of the season would then guarantee the Sky Blues a place in next season’s Champions League at United’s expense.

Thankfully for City fans, West Ham has proven to be formidable opposition at home this season and the hosts will be keen to end their successful season on a high given that this is their last ever game at Upton Park.

Given that fact, it would be fitting then for West Ham to end a horrid streak against United. They have failed to beat the Red Devils in their last 14 Premier League fixtures.

If United wish to cause an upset of sorts, Wayne Rooney will have to continue his goal scoring exploits against West Ham. The England striker has scored 12 goals in 17 games against the London club and once again stands as a key figure in tonight’s crucial contest.

Overall, United are the team that has to throw caution to the wind in a bid to earn a priceless win that could guarantee Champions League football next season. West Ham however will be keen to secure a win in their last home game of the season at such an historic ground and should be favoured to secure a narrow victory.

West Ham to win 1-0.
