At 227 kilometres in length, Stage 11 will be a long affair for both the riders and spectators. However, with a sting in the final 20 kilometres, this stage is not as easy as it looks on paper.

The riders start from the city of Modena and travel 170 kilometres without any real obstacles, with the only two interesting points being two intermediate sprint points, in Grisignano di Zocco (145 kilometres) and Villa del Conte (167 kilometres).

The last 50 kilometres or so is where the excitement grows as the riders slowly face a gradual rise, before the at 23 kilometres to go mark where a punishing, category four climb of three kilometres at eight per cent, with ramps of up to 15 per cent near the top kicks in.

Off the climb is a technical descent, before undulating roads into the final five kilometres, where we hit the final difficulty on the race route, a 1.5-kilometre climb of seven per cent before a short dash down into the finish in Asolo.

It’s a stage where the breakaway could take the glory, or a rider attacking on one of the two final climbs taking the spoils. However, the punchy sprinters will do all they can to keep the race together in the final 20 kilometres for a reduced bunch kick.

Watch out for potential general classification riders to attack coming into the finish, as those slopes are steep enough to hurt even the best of climbers.

My prediction is for a breakaway win. A rider like Tim Wellens or Adam Hansen for Lotto-Soudal are the perfect riders to take the win.
