Okay so you’ve read my preview on the Doomben Cup, now I’m going to take you through a preview of the other group one being the Darley Goodwood held at Morphettville over the 1200-metre journey for the sprinters.

The first runner I’m keen to have a look at is Flamberge, who has won two Group 1s this preparation, defeating smart sprinters Fell Swoop and Holler who is off to royal Ascot. He had excuses last start failing in the TJ Smith which he failed to beat a runner home, he won this race last year and should he be cherry ripe, he is definitely in the mix to go back to back.

The next runner I am keen to have a close look at is another classy gelding who has who has also had a Group 1 win under his belt this preparation in which he defeated the favourite for this race Black Heart Bart and “The World’s Best Sprinter” Chautauqua, which reads great form for a race like this. The two runs he had after that were solid and he made up a stack a ground in both runs and if he gets the right run and they’re going fast up front he could be a closer to watch late in the race.

Now we come to the favourite of the race Black Heart Bart, this Western Australian gelding has been very consistent since joining the all mighty Darren Weir yard. This gelding has been the bridesmaid in two Group 1s this preparation where he ran second to The Quarterback and second English, which again reads outstanding form for this race, definitely hard to beat and will be going into my numbers.

Another consistent gelding I am keen to look at is Churchill Dancer from the Hayes and Dabernig yard, this gelding is ultra consistent and rarely runs a bad race, although he has been up for awhile he could run a cheeky race. This gelding’s past two runs have been in Group 1 company where he just finished behind the placings on both occasions, with the Hayes yard well represented in this race it’s hard to leave any of them out with the form they have been in as of late.

Another consistent gelding from the Hayes and Dabernig yard is Fast N Rocking, like his stablemate this gelding rarely runs a bad race and is always very competitive if the race is to his liking. Last start he finished third in a group 3 to Music Magnate which was a very good performance only beaten by a small margin, three starts ago he was competitive in a Group 1 finishing fourth only beaten a length by Flamberge. Providing he gets the right run this race, he could be in the finish like his stablemate Churchill Dancer.

Another runner who loves to get back and storm home late is Under The Louvre he is a very consistent horse but has been a non winner of late. We last saw this galloper finish third behind Sheidel and Girl Guide only beaten 0.3 lengths where he motored home late to make some huge ground, if that is the case again and they’re going quick he could pounce late and win.

The next galloper I am looking at here is the boom horse from Victoria trained by Mick Kent who is having a good trot at the moment, that horse’s name is Supido who just keeps winning. This is Supido’s toughest test to date but it does look likely that Supido can step up to this grade. Last start we saw this galloper defeat another boom horse this time from Tasmania in Admiral which we will speak about later, Supido defeated that galloper by 0.4 lengths and looks like it can step up again, definitely in the mix.

Two more gallopers to cover before we get down to my final selections, with the first of those a boom horse from Tasmania called Admiral. This gelding was first up last start at Flemington where he narrowly went down to Supido and looks to have a touch of class about him. Last time we saw him in Group 1 company was over at Flemington in Australian Guineas where he finished just behind the placings on that occasion, if he can reproduce that sort of form he could be right in the mix here.

The last galloper I want to have a look at is another horse from the Hayes and Dabernig yard and that galloper is called Sheidel. Since crossing from Western Australia this mare has been consistent with a couple of top-four finished next to her name and a win defeating ex stablemate Girl Guide at listed level.

This is probably Hayes and Dabernig’s best chance to win the race, last time out she finished second in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes behind Precious Gem only beaten 0.1 lengths and arguably could have won the race if stablemate Miss Promiscuity wasn’t being annoying in front, if she runs up to that I think she is a huge threat to win this race.

Finally that concludes my preview on a few key runners, now I will bring you to my selections.

3 Black Heart Bart – 19 Sheidel – 15 Supido – 9 Fast N Rocking
