Sri Lanka face a massive uphill battle to stay in the fight when they face England on the third day of the Test at Leeds. Join The Roar for live scores from Day 3 of the match, starting from 8pm AEST.

An utter collapse in their first turn with the bat has Sri Lanka staring down the barrel of the gun and with England enforcing the follow on there’s a good chance that this match could be over on day 3.

England batted first in this match putting up a passable total of 298 with the highlight being a 140 from Jonny Bairstow, as well as 86 from Alex Hales.

Though no other batsman in the team was able to put together even 20 runs individually, the English finished with their total just under 300 and that looks like it could be a match-winning effort at this stage.

Sri Lanka’s innings was laughably poor, with three batsmen – Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka – going for ducks, and three more for single-figure totals. Their best performance came from Angelo Matthews who hit 34 off 62 balls.

James Anderson and Stuart Broad were the main weapons for the English taking nine wickets between the two of them.

The equation is simple for Sri Lanka, if they put in another effort like that with the bat then they will most likely be finished before the day is out.

It would take a truly epic recovery from this stage for them to have any chance of winning the match or even dragging it out for a draw – this one seems destined to be an English victory, with the only question being how long it will take.
