Queensland halfback Cooper Cronk has suffered an injury scare at Maroons camp today, leaving the training paddock in a medical cart after going down with an ankle injury.

At this stage, there is no detail as to the extent of the ankle problem Cronk has picked up, but Queensland staff reportedly looked concerned as Cronk was wheeled away in a cart. Cronk is said to have rolled his ankle early on in the session, but kept training for a while before eventually beckoning over medical staff.

The tumble he took during agility training looks innocuous enough, but at this stage there’s no word on how seriously Queensland are treating it.

Michael Morgan assumed the playmaking spot alongside Johnathan Thurston for the rest of the session.

Queensland coach Kevin Walters said Cronk’s ankle had swollen “like a balloon”.

Manly’s Daly Cherry-Evans has been invited into training camp with the Maroons, but hasn’t arrived yet as his flight from Sydney has been delayed.

Cronk will undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury.

Cronk has proved to be the linchpin for the Queenslanders. 2014 is the only series the Maroons have lost in the last decade, with Cronk forced to sit out due to an injury he picked up in Game 1.

Cherry-Evans was Cronk’s replacement in that series, as well as during Game 2 last year, which Queensland also lost.

This photo of Cronk leaving Maroons training doesn’t really look great for the playmaker.

It’s been a disrupted preparation for the Queenslanders so far, with Cherry-Evans and fellow fringe players invited into camp delayed by winds at Sydney Airport, Dane Gagai attending a funeral, and now Cronk’s injury.
