Former French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova goes head-to-head against former Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza in what should be a well contested fourth round match-up. Join The Roar for live scores from 7pm AEST.

These are two of the most competitive players on the WTA tour clash, meeting in an eagerly anticipated French Open fourth round.

Both Kuznetsova and Muguruza have enjoyed significant success in the women’s game and both possess the temperament and skill required to reach the latter stages at Roland Garros.

Kuznetsova last won the French Open in 2009 after being runner-up back in 2006. She also has a 2004 US Open title to go along with a 2007 final appearance at Flushing Meadows.

Such a record highlights the fact that Kuznetsova is a seasoned professional on the WTA tour and she certainly possesses the experience required to secure her third grand slam title.

Muguruza on the other hand is one of the brightest young stars in the women’s game. At just 22 years of age, the Spaniard has already made a major final at Wimbledon last year where she lost to Serena Williams.

While Kuznetsova could be considered the better mover around the court given her success on clay, Muguruza does have the Russian covered for power, so it will be interesting to see which asset proves the most vital in determining the winner tonight.

With a quarter-final spot up for grabs, this match-up should go to three sets. These two players met last year at the Madrid Masters and Kuznetsova won out on that occasion in a tight three setter.

Prediction
With both players fairly evenly matched, picking a winner here is difficult. While Kuznetsova’s experience and tenacity serves her well, Muguruza’s talent and power could be enough for the Spaniard to secure an epic win.
