Bayern Munich fans will not be at ease until Robert Lewandowski’s future at their very club is assured. Yet the rumours that he’s leaving just won’t stop swirling.

Even though he says he is happy in Munich, he recently couldn’t deny that he may sign with Madrid if Los Blancos came calling.

Meanwhile his agent, Cezary Kucharski, said just over a week ago in German newspaper Spiegel: “Real Madrid contacted us a few weeks ago, we listened to everything they said. It’s a big and exciting club.

“We have informed FC Bayern that we’ve held talks with Madrid.”

More recently, however, Lewandowski’s other agent, Maik Barthel, said, “We don’t comment on any rumours which have been fished from the shallows of the ocean.”

Fans don’t know what to believe. So let’s assess the outcomes according to their likelihoods.

Possibility 1 – very unlikely
All of the statements made by Cezary Kucharski are a futile attempt to grab the attention of the team that will be retaining the services of Alvaro Morata this season and won’t be needing any more strikers. Barthel’s comments were to cover up Kucharski’s failed attempt to attract Real Madrid’s attention, meaning Lewy stays.

Even though this isn’t very likely, Bayern fans certainly do hope this is the situation.

Possibility 2 – unlikely
Cezary’s comments came before Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s command to keep Lewy at Bayern, and after the talks broke down, Barthel came out to fix the situation and claim that there were no discussions in the first place.

Again, unlikely, but Bayern hopefuls certainly won’t mind that being the case.

Possibility 3 – moderately possible
Lewandowski became reluctant to pursue a career at Madrid, perhaps because he saw more opportunities of winning the Champions League with Bayern under Carlo Ancelotti, or simply because Bayern offered him some serious cash to not move.

This resulted in, again, Barthel coming out to cover up for Cezary’s comments and the deal that has broken down. Good news for Bayern fans if true.

Possibility 4 – most likely
Lewandowski has already signed for Real Madrid. But why would Barthel come out and ruin the party for the Madridistas? Well, there are two logical explanations.

Firstly, he doesn’t want his client to face any negativity from the vocal Die Roten fans.

Secondly, he would like some peace and quiet to think of a way to justify this move to the fans, and to have a clear mind to lead his Polish side through the Euro group stages.

No matter what the outcome of this situation is, Bayern was even better before Lewandowski’s signing. The club won’t cease to be a destructive if a player leaves, especially one who has only been there a couple of seasons.

Bayern have loads of money, and can replace Lewy with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain or Edinson Cavani.
