England head into the third day of their Test with Sri Lanka looking the heavy favourites to claim a clean sweep of the series. Join The Roar for live scores from the day, starting from 8pm AEST.

While England’s first innings was a dominant display that looked likely to set up a win, some credit should go to Sri Lanka for their fighting effort on the second day which still has them in with a chance of winning this match or recording a draw.

England batted first when the Test began and put together a score of 416, with the most impressive effort coming from Jonny Bairstow who finished with 167 not out, while Alastair Cook (85) and Chris Woakes (66) were other significant contributors.

Ragana Herath took four wickets for the Sri Lankans in that innings and had the lowest economy (2.25) of any of their bowlers.

Sri Lanka came in to bat and despite fears that they might be quickly dismissed in much the same way as they have been in the first two Tests, they have so far held together very well with Dimuth Karunaratne the only wicket to fall – and not before collecting a half-century.

When play resumes today it will be Kaushal Silva and Kusal Mendis at the crease for Sri Lanka, on 79 and 25 not out respectively.

England will look to take some wickets early and hope that doing so removes any sense of belief among the Sri Lankans. Steven Finn is their only wicket-taker so far.

Sri Lanka on the other hand will be doing whatever they can to stay at the crease and hopefully build a total that can challenge Englands, or at the very least, avoid a follow-on.
