Match preview:

The Sydney Roosters are looking to build some momentum and get a second straight victory, but it will be a tough assignment when they host the high flying Melbourne Storm. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEST).

The Roosters have been dreadful for the most part of 2016, but there were signs that the beginning of a resurgence may be near last weekend.

They sit second last place on the ladder, having just won four games this season but two of those have come very recently, with a big win over the Wests Tigers in ugly conditions last time out.

It was a real shift in attitude for the Roosters as they looked to attack despite the conditions. If they can keep that up, and not worry so much about the consequences, then they are a chance here.

The biggest problem has been trying to play structure without having the personnel to do it. Jared Waerea Hargreaves though adds a massive amount of positivity into their forward pack after coming back last week.

The Storm meanwhile are in what should prove to be their hardest stretch of the season – not in terms of the draw but given it is the Origin period they are affected like few other teams in the competition.

These middle weeks during the Origin period, where all the teams play and no one is backing up from Origin, are important for them to keep a sense of momentum going through their season. Of course, they have plenty of points to play with given they are equal top of the table with the Cronulla Sharks and four points up on the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys.

They come into this on the back of a hard fought win over the Penrith Panthers.

There are almost no team changes for this match, with Mitchell Frei replacing Isaac Liu on the bench for the Roosters. At the same time, Latrell Mitchell is expected to be out, and Mitchell Pearce is expected to play meaning a reshuffle could be on the cards.

For Melbourne to win this, it will be down to controlling Hargreaves, and winning the battle up and down the middle. The Roosters won’t stand a chance if Melbourne get to their usual grinding style of play.

Prediction
The Storm will be far too good here. The Roosters are inconsistent at best, and it could get ugly in the back end if the game is already beyond reach.

Storm by 18.
