A resurgent Carlton Blues side will take on the St Kilda Saints this afternoon, with an outside chance at the top eight in sight. Catch all the live highlights and AFL action from 1:10pm (AEST) on The Roar.

The Saints were punished last week in a one-sided demolition job against Adelaide, going down by 88 as they let in 19 goals and 133 points, to just 45 of their own.

The Saints have had a torrid campaign this year, suffering from inconsistency as they limp around the bottom half of the table.

Early in the season it looked as if Carlton would be heading down a similar path to the Saints, racking up four losses on the trot to start their season, however, a rejuvenated Blues squad has proceeded to take home six wins from their last seven outings to fly back up into finals contention.

Despite their positive win-loss record, Calton interestingly sit second in the AFL for least points scored per game, but also hang in the top six with the competition front runners for least points conceded per game.

Team news
The Saints have been hit the hardest of the two teams in terms of injury news and team changes, making six alterations to their squad for Round 12.

Big guns Nick Riewoldt and Sean Dempster will both be out of action with knee injuries, while Paddy McCartin also misses out after a concussion scare last week against the Crows.

19-year old Hugh Goddard will not only be absent from this week’s game, but has been ruled out of the season after an Achilles injury took him down during last week’s loss.

The remaining two changes come in the form of Jack Billings and Brodie Murdoch, who were both omitted from the squad.

Luke Delaney, Tom Lee, Nathan Wright, Lewis Pierce, Blake Acres and Darren Minchington all come into the game day lineup.

In stark contrast to their opposition, it’s just the one change for the Blues, with Liam Sumner coming on for Nick Graham (omitted).

Also for Carlton, Ed Curnow will be racking up his 100th game in the AFL, having played for Carlton since his debut in 2011.

Prediction
Carlton have been on a tear after their slow start to the year, and with a sniff at the top eight and a depleted St Kilda side in front of them, I can’t see the run stopping this weekend.

Carlton to win by 39

Can St Kilda get a win on the board and get their season back on track? Or will the Blues continue their charge towards the finals with another four points to the tally? Follow all the thrilling live highlights and action on The Roar from 1:10pm (AEST).
