England will look to wrap up their Test match against Sri Lanka on Day 5 but need to do plenty of wicket-taking if they’re going to get the job done. Join The Roar for live scores from the final day of the match, starting from 8am AEST.

The English have long been favoured to win this Test but now a draw is a strong possibility with Sri Lanka holding firm at the crease and likely looking to bat out the fifth day, if they can.

England made the bold decision to declare with just 233 runs in the second innings, leaving themselves with a 359-run lead going into Sri Lanka’s second turn with the bat.

That’s not a total Sri Lanka are likely to chase down but it’s certainly a smaller lead than might have been expected. However, England clearly felt the time running out and made the call, looking for as much time to bowl as possible. Some odd showers delayed the start of the day and never entirely went away.

The English weren’t able to get the breakthrough they wanted on Day 4. Sri Lankan openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva faced twelve overs to close out the day, putting together 32 runs before stumps.

So now the English have the threat of more rain to contend with as well as 10 Sri Lankan wickets needing to be felled. Sri Lanka on the other hand have the difficult but not entirely impossible assignment of making 330 runs on Day 5 to win it (they’re currently at $76 odds to do so).

The weather forecast is calling for more rain, so the odds are that this one will finish in a draw without us getting to see what might have been an exciting conclusion.
