Strange moments make up our lowlights of the week

German manager Joachim Low has been caught on camera doing weird things before but at the Euro Championships he outdid himself.

While watching his team from the sideline, Low had a not so sneaky feel down his pants and a sniff test for good measure. Lukas Podolski later defended his manager.

“It’s not an issue. About 80 percent of you here have at some point scratched your balls. Therefore, everything is good,” Podolski said.

Meanwhile, a ‘handball’ of different kind shook the Copa America to its core. Peru knocked Brazil out of the tournament with a clear punch of the ball that came 30-years after Diego Maradona’s ‘hand of God’ goal at the World Cup.

The referee knew his decision was an important one and tried to receive confirmation from a replay. It took longer than an NRL bunker and apparently no replay was available. Of course, as soon as he stuck with his original decision the replays came flooding in to show the blunder again, and again and again.

Blunders were not confined to officials. On the cricket field we’ve seen so many dropped catches, including but not limited to Jonny Bairstow for England and AB de Villiers. Both were absolute sodas.

On the rugby field. the Wallabies lost the first Test. England’s defence put the pressure on and it led to a comical moment where a terrible Israel Folau pass led to a number of fumbles and ultimately an England try.

But Melbourne Demons player Tom McDonald proved you can still recover from a blooper with a rare ‘falcon-mark’ in the AFL. He was outdone though by Cameron Smith who turned a lowlight into a highlight with an accidental circus act. Smith’s slip while converting a try will be hard for anyone to emulate.
