It seems so long ago when a fresh-faced 19-year-old Chris Sandow stepped onto the NRL scene for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Recruitment manager Mark Hughes signed the young half to a minimum $30,000 contract in 2008, where he started the year in the Rabbitohs Under-20s side.

Star halfback Craig Wing suffered a season-ending injury, which opened the door for the up and coming superstar to show what his worth. The end of the 2008 season saw Sandow win rookie of the year, feature in the Toyota Cup team of the year, and receive the George Green medal for rising Indigenous star of 2008.

Jump in a time machine to 2012 and Sandow signed a lucrative contract with the Parramatta Eels. In what was one of the most hyped and controversial transfers of 2012, Sandow was rumoured to be on about $550,000 a season.

To say his Parramatta campaign was unsuccessful would be somewhat of an understatement. He was tagged unfit and wasn’t performing as the value of his contract suggested he should.

Filtering in and out of first grade for the next three years, Sandow finally decided to leave the NRL in 2015 and join English Super League side the Warrington Wolves.

After a sluggish start to his ESL career, Sandow was labelled fat and useless by the Warrington faithful. But as a new 2016 season arises, so does a brilliant, reformed Chris Sandow.

He is ever firming as the favourite to receive the Man of Steel award for 2016, which is the Super League’s equivalent of the NRL’s Dally M medal.

He has starred in his club’s 12 wins so far this year, which sees them sitting in fourth position.

What have you made of Chris Sandow’s form this season? Would he fit back in at an NRL club and can he win the Man of Steel award?
