WATCH: Dangerous tackle sparks a bit of Origin biff

How do you judge the severity of a dangerous tackle? It's actually pretty easy. (AAP Image/Dave Hunt)

Corey Parker and Sam Thaiday hammered Paul Gallen into the Suncorp turf in a dangerous moment that sparked the first melee of Origin 2.

Parker made the initial contact, around the NSW skipper’s shoulders, before Thaiday went low and picked Gallen up.

The retiring Shark took a hit to the turf that had more than a few hearts in throats.

It was always going to be penalised, but this is Origin – just because a penalty is going to be blown doesn’t mean you don’t try to square up.

Actually, strike that, this is Origin in the post-biff era. So just because a penalty’s going to be blown, doesn’t mean you’re not going to run in and make a big ol’ show of not actually hitting anyone.

The big men raced up to one another, and proceeded to huff and puff… And not really do a great deal else.

Still, Corey Parker – who announced this week that 2016 will be his final season of footy – showed he’s not going to retire without rattling a few more Blue cages – and ribs.
