Match number eight of the tri-series in the West Indies is scheduled for the 21st June in Barbados between the hosts West Indies and Australia and the visitors know they are in a must-win situation. Catch all the live scores, highlights and action from 3am (AEST) on The Roar.

A defeat for Australia would see them eliminated from the tournament even before the completion of the qualifying fixtures. However, a victory for the Baggy Green Caps would secure their place in the final of the tri-series, leaving the West Indies facing another shoot out only this time against South Africa in the final group game.

With the rules of the tri-series stating that the number of wins will decide finishing positions in the event of two sides finishing level on points, the hosts will have an advantage over the Proteas, should that be a deciding factor.

Match No.7 between Australia and South Africa on Sunday, the first fixture scheduled for Barbados, fell victim to the weather, with just one over of play possible. The two sides contesting Tuesday’s contest will therefore have had no chance to glean any clues as to how the pitch might play.

Sunday was AB de Villiers’ 200th ODI appearance for his country, and ironically the wash out was almost a mirror image of what happened when he made his 100th Test appearance in India last November, another fixture that was ruined by the weather.

Both the West Indies and South Africa seemed to be of the opinion that Barbados was a venue to unleash their quick bowlers, and with no evidence to the contrary due to the abandonment on Sunday, it is likely that Tuesday will see a barrage of fast bowling.

Having included both Scott Boland and Mitchell Starc in their starting XI on Sunday, and selected Glenn Maxwell at the expense of the series-leading wicket taker Adam Zampa on Sunday, there is little doubt as to how the Australian’s see the pitch playing.

However, it might make sense for the Aussies to look at playing Zampa against West Indies, a team with a more brittle batting line-up than most other teams.

West Indies have made an interesting choice in releasing Jerome Taylor from the squad which means they will have to make at least one change to their line-up. Shannon Gabriel could take his place if the pitch continues to play any quicker than those in the first two legs.

Australia start favourites, especially given that Mitchell Starc will be back to feature in the game but West Indies will look to exploit the absence of David Warner at the top of the order.
