Edith Bosch, born in 1980 might have represented the Netherlands at the Olympics in Judo, but she will be also remembered for punching a ‘fan’ at the London 2012 Olympics during the 100-metre sprint.
While she was still a participant at the 2012 Games, she happened to be in the main stadium watching the 100-metre final, featuring the likes of Usain Bolt when a fan near her through a bottle onto the track just before the race started.

She attacked the fan, hitting him over the back of the head before security were able to break up the altercation, throwing the man out of the stadium – although Bosch was said to be devastated to miss the race after acting out of emotion and disappointment.
At the time, Bosch was 32-years old and it would be her last Olympics as a participant in Judo where she took out her second consecutive bronze medal in the 70 kilograms category.
That was following the bronze in Beijing where she had defeated UFC phenomenon Ronda Rousey in a quarter-final. Until Rousey lost a UFC fight to Holly Holm, Bosch was rather incredibly the last person to defeat her in any type of fight.
Her best performance at the Olympics though came in 2004 where she picked up the silver medal once again in the 70 kilogram division, going down to Japan’s Masae Ueno in the final, who has won multiple Judo gold medals.
Despite never being able to crack the gold medal at the Olympic Games, Bosch was able to win the world championships at Cairo in 2005 and was also a four-time winner of the European Championships.
At the end of the day though, she will always be remembered as the athlete that punched a fan.
