Samantha Stosur kicks off her Wimbledon campaign against Magda Linette Join The Roar from 8:30pm (AEST) for live coverage.

One of two Australians in the women’s singles draw, Stosur is coming off a brilliant run at the French Open six weeks ago, where she reached the semi-finals before losing at the hands of eventual champion Garbine Muguruza.

Since then, the Gold Coast local has made just one appearance, losing to Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 6-1 at Eastbourne, in her first start at the tournament.

The tournament 14th seed has won seven of her last ten matches and will be looking to go far on grass this season after finishing in the third round last year, her best result at Wimbledon.

Wimbledon may be Stosur’s worst grand slam in terms of performance, however she goes into this match as the overwhelming favourite.

Linette comes into Wimbledon off the back of an unsuccessful start to the grass season.

The 24-year-old began her quest to Wimbledon at Nottingham, where she failed to beat Christina McHale in the first round, sending her packing to Birmingham, where she couldn’t get past Andrea Petkovic having received a placement in the main draw as a lucky loser.

Forced to retire late in the first set during qualifying for Eastbourne, the Polish world No.93 needs a massive effort to knock over Stosur, having never been past the first round at Wimbledon.

However if she can emulate her performances that saw her defeat the likes of Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Tatjana Maria and Carina Witthoeft, she may challenge Stosur.

The pair have never met before on the WTA Tour.

The winner faces a tough match against either Sabine Lisicki or Shelby Rogers.

Prediction
The Australian should come away with a straight-sets win.
