Undoubtedly Patrick Dangerfield is in major contention for the Brownlow medal this year. Racking up over 25 disposals per game at least, Dangerfield has been the poster boy at Geelong since being traded from Adelaide last year.

Here’s three talking points about the great man himself.

It takes a team
When Geelong wins, Dangerfield tends to get a lot of the credit. I can’t deny the incredible individual achievements he makes each game, but it’s about time Geelong got some recognition.

Despite losses to Collingwood and St Kilda, the Cats have made some incredible progress this year to cement a spot in the eight.

It’s important for the papers to start recognising it’s a team effort, not just an individual.

Are the MRP compromised?
After Dangerfield put a pesky knee to the head of Saints defender Jarryn Geary, he was reported to the match review panel instantly. The panel deemed the contact accidental as Geary was ‘holding’ Dangerfield’s leg as he attempted to run away.

You have to wonder how they handle situation involving such high-profile players, especially if they are a Brownlow chance. Last year Nat Fyfe escaped suspension and went on to win the Brownlow despite controversy about the panel’s decision.

Are the MRP’s decisions influenced if the player is in contention for the game’s highest individual honour? Just imagine the drama if they suspended Patty and he ‘won’ the Brownlow tally.

What would have happened if Patty had stayed at Adelaide?
Roary Sloane is having one of his best seasons back in Adelaide. If Dangerfield had stayed, we would be looking at a powerhouse Crows side.

Both Adelaide and Geelong are finals bound, and the last time they met Dangerfield only had five disposals more than Sloane, but the Cats ran out 26-point winners.

If these two men played on the same side, we might be seeing one of the best duos in AFL history.
