West Coast Eagles 20.10.130
Essendon Bombers 7.10.52
The West Coast Eagles host the Essendon Bombers at Domain Stadium in what is expected to be a one-sided affair. Join The Roar for all the action from 8:10pm (AEST).
The Eagles are performing a bit below the standard they would like – after making it all the way to the grand final last year, they seem a bit off this season, with many players taking steps back.
More worrying is that the big recruits that were set to bolster them have flopped. Jack Redden, formerly of Brisbane, has been dropped this week after showing little to no reliable form in his time as an Eagle, while Eric Mackenzie – coming back from an ACL injury – is stuck in the WAFL due to his poor form.
Ex-Swan Lewis Jetta is playing, but not offering the level of performance they’d like to see from him.
All things considered, it’s looking like a disappointment of a year for the Eagles. However, they’re still one of the better teams in the league, and more than capable of beating up on a struggling Essendon.
The Bombers are still doing what they can to get by without their 12 banned players this season, and while they’ve had the occasional solid performance – and even a win earlier in the year – there’s no denying the fact that they’re just not very good.
Interstate trips have proven particularly troublesome for the Dons and they’re only going to get more tired as the year goes on. For that reason, this match has all the hallmarks of a smashing.
The player to watch tonight is Josh J Kennedy. Destroying bad teams in Perth is his bread and butter, and he is just one goal behind Lance Franklin in the Coleman Medal. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all if he is five, six or even more ahead by the end of the night.
Prediction
In a more humane world, this match would be cancelled and the coaches would just take all the players out for pizza and ice cream. Instead…
West Coast by 72 points.
