Gold Coast got back on the winners list after a 10-game losing streak with a big win over St Kilda on Saturday afternoon. In what was an inaccurate goal kicking display from both sides, Gold Coast over came those goal kicking woes by posting a 40 point win 15.8.108 to 8.20.68.

Gold Coast opened the game with the first 10 scoring shots including four goals. The Saints took a bit of control back late in the first with the final three goals of the quarter. Gold Coast took a three goal lead into the first change despite the loss of Matt Rosa early on with a hamstring injury.

St Kilda started the second quarter well but were not rewarded for their effort only kicking one goal while Gold Coast took off booting another four goals in the quarter.

St Kilda would lose young Paddy McCartlin to a concussion in the second quarter and he took no further part in the game – it is McCartins third concussion this season and St Kilda may look at giving him an extended stint on the sidelines after that.

The third quarter started off with a behind to the Suns before the Saints tried to take some control over the game but their poor shots on goal were making it difficult. When they did get a major the Suns answered back with 2 in quick succession. Gold Coast would take a 50 point margin into the final term.

The fourth again was plagued by inaccurate shots on goal but St Kilda would win the quarter with some late goal kicking. The game was never in doubt for the Suns.

Michael Rischitelli led both teams with 35 disposals while Leigh Montagna was the best from the losing side.

It was a big day for young Peter Wright who along with 10 marks would kick 3 goals for the Suns, but it was a game to forget for Tom J Lynch would be kicking himself, only being able to convert one goal while kicking four behinds.

Over on the Saints Nick Riewoldt like Lynch had a number of good chances at goal but would finish the game goalless and have five behinds. Jack Newnes and Tim Membrey would both finish the game with two goals for the Saints.
